A Santee couple notified deputies last week of a neighbor pilfering items from around their home.

The Deer Trail Drive man said a woman who lives nearby has repeatedly entered his and his wife’s property stealing things, mainly clothing, according to the incident report.

The man said that on Sept. 24, the woman came into his yard and took two shirts from a clothesline while his wife watched. The man’s wife said the woman grabbed the shirts and ran off toward her home.

The clothing thefts have been going on for some time, the man said. He expressed the hope that the woman’s husband would take care of the matter since he is a reasonable person, the report said.

The man’s wife, however, wants to press charges, saying the clothing thefts have happened too many times, the report said.

In other reports:

* An Isle of Palms woman reported her car stolen in Orangeburg Monday. The woman said she parked her green 1998 Honda Accord at a Magnolia Street location. When she returned a few hours later, the $4,000 car was gone.

* A Hilltop Circle woman reported a series of burglaries. The woman told deputies that burglars have been using a crawl space under her home to break in. She said they had stolen a pack of batteries and tampered with her phone line so she couldn’t call 911, the report said. She pointed out two windows that had been used to enter her home as well. Deputies noted the windows were about nine feet from the ground. When they asked the woman how someone could get in through the windows, she produced “a very tall, slim, flimsy stick,” according to the report.

“The victim then indicated that the suspect, who is at least one foot tall (indicated by her hands), shimmied up the stick and came through the window,” the report reads.

Deputies advised the woman her home would be placed on special patrol.
