The funeral for Mrs. Catherine L. Gass, 69, of 152 Valiant Drive, Orangeburg, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at New Light United Methodist Church, Orangeburg, with the Rev. Norman A. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Belleville Memorial Gardens.

The casket will be placed in the church at noon.

Pallbearers will be United Methodist Men.

Mrs. Catherine Delores Lewis Gass entered into eternal life at her home on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008. Born in Orangeburg on Sept. 15, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Willie Jamison and the late Willa Dudley.

She received her early education at the Great Branch Community School and later graduated from George Washington Carver High School. After graduating from high school, she pursued higher education at Claflin University in Orangeburg, where she received a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education. Her professional career provided her the opportunity to serve as a supervisor at the North Central Bronx Hospital in Bronx, N.Y., from which she retired.

She was married to Oscar "Bubba" Gass and to this union two sons were born. One son preceded her in death.

Her strong faith in God influenced her involvement in the church at an early age. She was an active member of St. Matthews AME in Bronx, where she held membership in several organizations. After returning home to Orangeburg, she recommitted her life to New Light United Methodist with her prayer, her presence, her gifts and her services.

She leaves behind three sons, Roderick (Lisa), Damon (Keisha) and Steve; three grandchildren, Jare, Jasmine and Justin; two sisters, Willa Dean and Cassandra; two brothers, MacArthur and Timothy; two aunts, Ruth Waller and Lessie Lewis; one uncle, Leroy Lewis; sisters-in-law, Romana Wilson (Fla.), Mary Green and Linda Hazel, both of South Carolina; a special friend, Sonniy Bonnette and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Friends may call at the residence and at Glover's Funeral Home.
