Getting close to South Carolina State men’s basketball coach Tim Carter is now as easy as entering cyberspace.
At CoachTimCarter.com, Bulldog fans can get the inside word about the program directly from the second-year sideline leader. The Web site contains a blog by Carter as well as his biography, information about S.C. State University and comments from fellow head coaches and former players.
“I just wanted people to have more of an insight into kind of what we’re doing,” Carter said. “So I kind of got my bearings having been here a year, and I wanted to make sure that our fans not only here, but our fans ... we’ve got a lot of fans all over the country. Georgia, Virginia, Florida. It gives them just a little bit of an insight to kind of what’s going on.”
Up and operating since August, Carter has provided such nuggets as:
- his thoughts on the disappointing 2007-08 season and outlook for 2008-09.
- team progress through summer workouts
- the possibility of a 6-11 recruit who played in the Beijing Olympics coming to S.C. State in January.
“I’m trying to build a program,” Carter said. “In trying to build a program, I need to reach out to our people as much as possible.”
In the future, Carter hopes to use the Web site to highlight some of his players in a way that gives fans a chance to know them personally. He also wants to be interactive with fans, responding to most questions they may have about the program and himself.
“The great thing about the site is that you can share information, but still get some privacy within your program,” he said. “The day and age of coaches just sitting back in their offices and not reaching out to their fans, I think those days are slowly going away. Every place I’ve ever been, I’ve always wanted our fans to know a little bit about our program to the point where I had my own Booster Club at (University of Texas/San Antonio.”
With preseason practice starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center, Carter hopes to update his Web site monthly during the regular season. Today, Carter in Winston-Salem, N.C. for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s annual press luncheon tip-off where coaches will provide their outlook for the 2008-09 season.
In addition, the MEAC will reveal their year’s preseason All-MEAC first and second men’s and women’s basketball teams and the predicted order of finish.
